Hello First Grade Families,
As we approach the end of our trimester, we are learning several strategies to solve equations in math. I encourage you to practice some mental math addition and subtraction problems. For example, ask your student what 6+4 equals. We really want to see those equations to ten become automatic. In class we use dominos, unifix cubes, tally marks, popsicle sticks and more to develop addition and subtraction strategies. Keep up that at home practice!
Next Thursday is our annual Jog-a-thon. Please help your student get pledges and raise money for Hawthorne. The class with the most pledges wins a class party so support our school and our classroom.
I have also sent home a conference preference form. I ask that you please return this on Friday. I will try to avoid scheduling any conferences Friday afternoon so please keep that in mind when making your top three choices.
